From Prototypes to Leadership: Mohamed Mohamed’s Journey to Director of Engineering at VitaTek

In this episode of VitaTalk, host Eli Rehmann sits down with Mohamed Mohamed, better known around the office as Momo, to talk about his path to becoming VitaTek’s Director of Engineering, the skills that got him there, and the projects that have shaped the company’s growth.
From Engineer to Director
Momo’s promotion to Director of Engineering wasn’t just about technical skill, it was about mastering the entire engineering process at VitaTek, from documentation and prototyping to client communication and team mentorship.
As the company grew, so did the need for someone who could bridge the gap between engineers and clients, ensuring nothing got lost in translation during development. Momo stepped into that role, combining his engineering know-how with the ability to guide junior engineers and maintain clear, consistent communication.
Building Skills Along the Way
While Momo’s specialty is electrical engineering, his skill set now spans multiple disciplines. Early in his career, he mastered SolidWorks and honed his prototyping skills, skills earned through countless iterations and even a “bucket of failed prints” that became a learning tool for the team.
Over time, he added critical soft skills:
Leading client presentations
Reading cues and addressing concerns
Managing expectations and avoiding scope creep
Building and maintaining thorough documentation
He also played a major role in developing VitaTek’s Quality Management System (QMS) from scratch, taking it from napkin sketches to a framework that passed rigorous MD SAP audits.
The Projects That Defined His Career
One of Momo’s earliest and most influential projects was Brea, a medical device concept that began with improvised materials, like shower curtains, and evolved into a fully realized product. The success of that project not only shaped Momo’s career but also helped launch VitaTek’s reputation as an innovative, full-service medtech development partner.
Each subsequent project brought unique challenges, refining VitaTek’s processes and strengthening its reputation through word-of-mouth from satisfied clients.
Leading with Accessibility
Ask Momo about his leadership style, and he describes himself as a support role, someone always available to answer questions, provide direction, and ensure his team feels equipped to tackle any challenge.
He believes in keeping documentation skills sharp across the team and ensuring that everyone can fluently navigate VitaTek’s processes, because when the whole team is aligned, client outcomes improve.
The Human Side of Leadership
While technical achievements are central to Momo’s role, he also values the culture that VitaTek has built. He points to summer as a highlight, when team bonding through golf, canoeing, and other activities strengthens the collaborative spirit that fuels their work.
Looking Ahead
For the future, Momo envisions a department where documentation excellence is second nature to every engineer, a foundation that supports innovation, efficiency, and quality in every project.
“When everyone is fluent in the process, we can build better things,” he says.
