Building a Voice Early: Intern Evie Kahn on Learning, Contributing, and Growing at VitaTek

In this episode of VitaTalk, host Eli Rehmann welcomes Evie Kahn, a part-time sales and marketing intern at VitaTek, to talk about finding her footing in the startup world, contributing ideas from day one, and building the skills that will carry her through her career.
Stepping Into the Startup World
Evie joined VitaTek in early July, coming off her sophomore year at Normandale Community College with an associate degree and ready to start her major coursework as a junior. Working one day a week, she’s using her time to gain hands-on experience in both the medtech and startup worlds, industries she had never worked in before.
“It’s a great way to dip my foot in the water and really understand what medical device work is, especially in a startup,” she says.
From Yoga Studios to Startups
Before VitaTek, Evie’s work experience spanned instructing yoga, working solo, and being part of larger teams in the food and beverage industry. The transition to a tight-knit startup environment brought new energy, collaboration, constant idea-sharing, and the ability to see company growth happen in real time.
“It’s cool to see people sitting within feet of each other, bouncing ideas back and forth. The energy here is amazing.”
Finding Her Superpower
At VitaTek, every team member is considered part of “The Avengers”, each person brings a unique strength to the team. For Evie, her superpower has been contributing her own ideas and developing a voice that people listen to.
She’s been an active participant in VitaTek’s Wisdom Swap meetings, where team members share insights from books, articles, and experiences. Her recent takeaways include lessons from The Challenger Sale and sales campaigns like Dale Dupree’s work with The Sales Rebellion.
“I was surprised at how much people here want to hear my ideas and see what I think about things,” she says.
Learning the Tools of the Trade
Evie has been exploring AI tools like Gamma to speed up presentation creation while keeping a personal touch in her work. She’s also learned foundational sales and networking skills, researching target markets, creating email templates, connecting with prospects on LinkedIn, and tailoring outreach to resonate with each specific contact.
Her main takeaway from The Challenger Sale: customization matters.“Go on their LinkedIn, learn who they are, and tailor your pitch. Don’t just send the same email to everyone.”
Building Confidence and Communication Skills
Public speaking is an area Evie is still refining, but her experience leading Wisdom Swaps and presenting ideas to the team has strengthened her ability to communicate with confidence. Her naturally personable approach, developed through years of connecting with people in her other jobs, has been a major asset.
Looking Ahead
Although she’s only been at VitaTek a short time, Evie is already seeing growth in her skills, knowledge, and confidence.
